Eligibility

None of the following people is eligible for coverage as of their effective date, If:

• you are travelling against medical advice
• you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness and have fewer than two (2) years to live;
• you have been diagnosed with or treated for pancreatic, lung, brain, or liver cancer within the last two (2) years; or any sort of cancer that has spread from one portion or organ of the body to another (metastatic cancer);
• you have received or are awaiting an organ or bone marrow transplant (save for corneal transplant);
• you have a renal ailment that necessitates dialysis;
• you have utilized home oxygen in the 12 months preceding the application date; and/or
• you are a resident of a nursing home, another long-term care facility, or a rehabilitation centre.

Start of Coverage:

• Coverage starts on the effective date

Waiting Time For Sickness:

• There is no waiting period if the insurance is acquired or activated before you arrive in Canada, or if the same policy has been extended.
• 72 hours if you purchase the coverage within 30 days of arriving in Canada (age 0 to 85).
• 7 days if you purchase the policy after 30 days of your arrival in Canada (age 0 to 85).
• If you are 86 or older, the Basic Plan has a 15-day waiting period.
• Any illness that occurs during the waiting time is not covered, even if related expenses are payable after the waiting period.

A waiting period will apply if you:

• purchase this policy after your arrival date; or
• have already arrived and requested a date change to an earlier effective date;
• Lower your deductible, switch from a 21st Century plan that does not cover stable pre-existing medical conditions to one that does, or
• increase your aggregate policy limit when you buy consecutive policies with no gap between the end date of the previous policy and the date of issue of the subsequent policy.

Extended Period:

• If you purchase coverage to prolong your trip, you will be issued a new policy with policy terms beginning on the effective date specified on your policy confirmation.
• If you buy two plans back-to-back with no break between the expiration date of the first and the effective date of the second, a waiting period will apply if you reduce your deductible, switch from a 21st-century plan that does not cover stable pre-existing medical conditions to one that does, or increase your aggregate policy maximum (sum insured).

End of Coverage:

• The coverage terminates on the expiry date
